Caverject is a drug used for erectile dysfunction, a prostaglandin E1 drug.
When administered intracavernously (into the penis), alprostadil inhibits alpha1-adrenergic receptors of the penile tissue, relaxes the muscles of the cavernous bodies, increases blood flow and improves microcirculation. Alprostadil causes an erection by relaxing the trabecular smooth muscles of the cavernous bodies and dilating the cavernous arteries, which leads to expansion of the lacunar spaces and blocking blood flow by pressing the venules to the protein coat (occlusion of the veins of the penis).
Alprostadil inhibits platelet aggregation and improves peripheral blood circulation
